In the 2005 the OECI held its annual General Assembly and Scientific Conference in Piraeus. The meeeting, hosted by the Metaxa Cancer Hospital of Piraeus was dedicated to the inequalities and lack of homogeneity prevailing in the cancer patients prevention and care.
This is an ambitious effort, where the participation of cancer hospitals is crucial, since they carry the main weight of realization of the cancer policies. The national governments have also to play an important role as they are called to support and push forward this initiative to solve the problem of the cancer patients treatment. The reports presented on this crucial subject by specialists from all over Europe were used by OECI to formulate and establish the guidelines for the policy that Europe has to adapt in order to face the inequalities observed between different countries, and even in one and same country.
