The Gregorio Marañón General University Hospital is a public health centre belonging to the Madrid Health Service of Madrid autonomous region. It is a national reference hospital that has been operating for more than half a century in its current location. It is one of the major hospitals with a high level of complexity, a national and international reference centre in several areas of knowledge, that provides care of more than one million people with oncological pathology. It is a centre with attention to adult and child population, reference in organ transplantation in several services.
Our mission as an organisation is to cure, care and innovate, promoting scientific knowledge to improve the lives of people. It is a recognized centre of excellence, the hospital holds multiple prestigious certifications such as ENAC, AENOR, EFQM and Joint Commission International accreditation.
Main Research Activities
Gregorio Marañón Hospital is part of Spain's National Health System's Network of Reference Centres for 17 rare or complex pathologies, including six oncohematological processes like high-risk germinal tumors and sarcomas, renal tumours with vascular involvement and congenital spinal cord failure syndromes. It has been a reference centre in the European Euracan Network for treating sarcomas and haematological malignancies with CAR-T therapies. The hospital is a leader in radiopathology and the first centre for nuclear disasters in Spain, with CCA JACIE accreditation for bone marrow transplants. The hospital’s research arm, IiSGM, involves over 1,300 researchers focusing on impactful areas, conducting more than 300 clinical trials in 2023, with a strong record of publications. It also has a translational research laboratory. The hospital also excels in medical education, collaborating closely with the Complutense University of Madrid, training healthcare professionals across various disciplines.

Gregorio Marañón University Hospital has a dedicated oncology and hematology team, serving both adult and pediatric patients. In addition, it offers a multidisciplinary team for oncology patients, including specialists in surgery, gynecology, rehabilitation, palliative care, cardiology, geriatrics, neurology, gastroenterology, psychology, social work, and more, to provide comprehensive care for oncology patients.
