OECI Academy: Empowering the Future of Oncology

The OECI Academy is dedicated to fostering the next generation of oncology professionals, equipping early-career scientists and physicians with the scientific knowledge, technical expertise, and essential soft skills needed to advance cancer research and patient care.

Established during the OECI General Assembly on June 14, 2024, the Academy embodies the OECI mission of building a critical mass of expertise in the fight against cancer.

Mission and Vision

The Academy is committed to supporting educational initiatives for junior scientists and physicians, working within the framework of European Commission research and health programmes. Our long-term goal is to develop well-rounded scientists capable of conducting high-caliber, innovative research, securing funding to propel groundbreaking discoveries, communicating their findings effectively to diverse audiences, leading teams with confidence and integrity.

Official Launch    

On January 16, 2025, at 2 PM, the Academy held its official launch webinar, attracting 62 participants from 15 European countries, marking a significant milestone in its journey to support oncology professionals.

Application and Fees
  • Webinars are free of charge for OECI members for scientists working in the OECI member institutions.
  • Residential course will be offered by OECI to 25 applicants + partial fellowships will be given to additional 25 participants.
  • A certificate will be given at the end of the academy for those participating in all the event.
  • Educational material will be available together with the recorded lectures for scientists working in the OECI member institutions.

Mastering the art of grant writing is essential for advancing cancer research and building a successful academic career. This immersive three-day residential course—OECI Academy’s first in-person event—is tailored for junior scientists and oncologists from OECI member institutions. It offers a hands-on, guided experience covering every phase of grant proposal development, from shaping a compelling research plan to crafting a persuasive abstract and biosketch.

Participants will deepen their understanding of budgeting, methodology, and dissemination strategies, while also learning to turn feedback and rejection into opportunities for improvement. The programme includes expert-led lectures, group activities, and individual assignments to ensure well-rounded, practical training.

Applications must be submitted by July 15, 2025, including a completed application form, CV, and diploma copy. Twenty-five full and twenty-five partial bursaries will be awarded to the top-ranked applicants, covering travel, accommodation, meals, registration, and learning materials.
