La Princesa University Hospital is a healthcare center that is part of the Public Health System of the Madrid Region. It is a historical hospital that has been in operation since 1857. The current hospital building was inaugurated in 1955. It is one of the four teaching hospitals of the School of Medicine of the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM). It is a Madrid Regional referral center for several treatment techniques. The Hospital provides general health care for a population of 350,000, and of 1,000,000 as reference center. It has yearly 15,000 hospital admissions, 474,000 outpatient consultation and 112,000 Emergency Department visits.
Research
In 2010, the University Hospital of La Princesa initiated the La Princesa Health Research Institute, (https://www.iis-princesa.org) one of the 8 Health Research Institutes designated by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation in the Region of Madrid, in collaboration with Primary Care, the Autonomous University of Madrid, the Niño Jesús Hospital and the Santa Cristina University Hospital.20 research groups, with 121 research projects and more than 500 researchers. During 2022, 519 scientific publications were made. The Average Cumulative Impact Factor obtained was 5,063.25.
Education
The University Hospital of La Princesa has had a marked university character for more than 40 years. It is affiliated to the Autonomous University of Madrid, and each academic year hosts some 240 medical students. Over the years, our resident program has trained more than 2,000 doctors and nurses in more than 50 medical, surgical, and nursing specialities.
Humanisation
The Hospital Universitario La Princesa also focuses on humanising, including our new Oncology outpatient and inpatient units. We have created space that are full of light and works of art, intimacy and comfort.
