Presentation of the Centre
The Comprehensive Cancer Center Zurich (CCCZ) is a strategic alliance of the University of Zurich, the University Hospital Zurich, the Balgrist University Hospital and the University Children's Hospital Zurich. As an oncology center of excellence, CCCZ strives for excellence in cancer research and cancer medicine, tight collaborations between scientists and physicians, and professional education in all aspects of oncology. Our overall aim is to develop innovative diagnostic and therapeutic concepts towards precision oncology and patient-focused care.
Main research activities
Our mission is to improve the treatment and care of adults and children with cancer. At CCCZ, scientists and physicians from around 65 research groups and clinical departments work closely together to improve the understanding of cancer. A key task is to bridge the gap between basic and clinical research. This allows scientific discoveries to be developed into effective diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Our research focus is precision medicine aiming to make precise diagnoses and provide personalized treatment approaches for cancer patients.
Core Clinical Facilities
At CCCZ, expert teams work closely together in specialized organ centers, offering cancer patients comprehensive and personalized care. Our 17 organ centers provide treatments and services for all cancer types, be it solid tumors or hematological malignancies. Interdisciplinary teams of surgeons, oncologists, radiation therapists and nursing specialists offer expert consultation. Together, they develop individual treatment plans for each patient at our weekly tumor boards. Our treatment options include state-of-the-art diagnostics, surgery, radiation therapy, and targeted systemic and immunotherapies. CCCZ offers access to innovative clinical trials, allowing our patients to benefit from novel therapy approaches and the latest research results. Our nursing teams guide the patient’s journey through the cancer center, making sure that all patients are offered professional support on all aspects of their disease. Our support services are available for all aspects of physical, psychosocial and emotional care.
Education
We train the next generation of talented scientists, physicians, and professionals in oncology. Together, we are continuously learning how to improve the quality of care for our patients. We engage and inform patients, relatives, and the general public objectively and transparently about current treatment options and research developments in oncology.
