Presentation of the Centre
The German Oncology Center (GOC), is a private cancer center, located in Limassol, Cyprus. It started providing its services in 2017, determined to make a strong impact on cancer care on the Island. Nowadays, the GOC team has over 600 employees offering patient-oriented medical care.
Following the slogan “compassion drives innovation” highly specialized and multidisciplinary teams offer a broad range of cancer related procedures including advanced molecular imaging, personalized medical oncology, and high-precision radiotherapy. In parallel, research performed at the GOC is internationally acclaimed, and mostly funded through grants from the Cyprus Research and Innovation Foundation and from the European Union. The GOC provides the clinical training for medical and nursery students from the Technical University of Limassol and the European University of Cyprus.
Main Research Activities
The German Oncology Center (GOC) is both a hospital and a research center, creating the space where doctors and researchers bring translational and clinical research together in a single location. Translational research at the GOC aims in finding novel prognostic or predictive biomarkers for personalized cancer treatments. Emphasize is given in the implementation of radiomics artificial intelligence tools for image processing. In parallel the clinical research teams conduct early and late phase clinical trials, and initiate patient empowerment research programs. The implementation of high-precision radiotherapy techniques is one of the main clinical research topics including several ongoing prospective trials at the center.
Core Facilities
The clinical core facilities in the German Oncology Center are (i) the Diagnostic Center which includes the Departments of Radiology, Nuclear Medicine and Pathology. (ii) At the Department of Radiotherapy two high-precision radiotherapy units (stereotactic-body radiotherapy and brachytherapy) are installed. For translational research activities the GOC acts as a satellite unit of the biobank od the University of Cyprus and for clinical research the GOC installed a clinical trials unit.
